Baku hosts international conference â€œAzerbaijan 2008: on the way of modernizationâ€

Baku. Tamara Grigorievaâ€“APA. International conference entitled â€œAzerbaijan 2008: on the way of modernizationsâ€ takes place in Baku. According to APA, government officials, members of the Parliament and representatives of the international organizations are attending the conference initiated by the Strategic Research Center under the President of Azerbaijan Republic and London Information Network on Conflicts and State-building (LINKS). Elkhan Nuriyev, Head of Strategic Research Center spoke about the importance of the conference. LINKS representative Denis Symouth called 2008 as very important year for Azerbaijan. He said presidential elections would be held in the country this year and expressed hope for the democratic elections in Azerbaijan. Symouth said Azerbaijan was of the first countries joined to initiative of transparency in the oil sector. It shows that Azerbaijan advocates for the liberalization of the economy. Symouth said analogical conference would be held in London on June 20.
