International Institute for Monitoring of Democracy, Development of Parliamentarism and Respect for Election Rights of Citizens in CIS PA countries Baku branch to be opened

The agreement was concluded by chairman of Azerbaijani parliament Ogtay Asadov and chief of Russian Federation Council Sergey Mironov.
Sergey Mironov stated that this kind of branch will be opened in Baku for the first time in the CIS.
At the meeting in the Azerbaijani parliament, Speaker Ogtay Asadov expressed satisfaction with the high-level relations between Azerbaijan and Russia. Commenting on use of Russian language in Azerbaijan, the speaker noted that there are 461 Russian schools, and it is taught in over 30 higher educational institutions. He also noted that there are many publications and TV programs in Russian in the country.
“The mutual visits of the presidents gave impetus to the development of the relations between the two countries. Russia is the biggest trade partner for Azerbaijan. Last year trade turnover between the states was over $1b. 390 Russian companies are operating in Azerbaijan, 171 of which are joint ventures,” the speaker underlined.
Ogtay Asadov also touched on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and noted that he believes that as one of the co-chairs of OSCE Minsk Group, Russia will make strong efforts for the solution of the conflict.
Sergey Mironov noted that his visit to Azerbaijan will contribute to the development of relations between the parliaments of the two countries. /APA/
