Russia’s state external debt, that is, the government’s obligations to foreign creditors, reached $61.9 billion as of 1 February, APA’s Moscow bureau reports, citing the official website of the Russian Ministry of Finance.

This figure has exceeded $60 billion for the first time since 2006.

According to data from the Central Bank of Russia, Russia’s total external debt amounted to $319.8 billion at the beginning of 2026. Over the past year, it increased by 10.4%, or $30 billion.

RBC notes that the regulator attributes the growth in external debt to the revaluation of liabilities amid the strengthening of the ruble, as well as to the attraction of debt financing.
