Russia’s state corporation Rosatom plans to begin the implementation of a nuclear power plant construction project in Armenia as soon as possible, said Mikhail Galuzin, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, in an interview with Izvestia, APA reports.
“Rosatom is, of course, ready to start implementing the project in the near term, taking into account the requirements of our Armenian friends. Given the availability of reliable and proven technologies, as well as the attractiveness of the financial terms—including construction, future operation, and the need for training and retraining specialists—there are no other realistic alternatives,” Galuzin said.
Note that on February 6, Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom, met in Moscow with Alen Simonyan, Speaker of the Armenian Parliament. During the meeting, the head of Rosatom provided information on the progress of work to extend the operational lifetime of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant. The issue of constructing new power units in Armenia was also discussed.
Recall that in 2023, Rosatom Service and Armenian Nuclear Power Plant CJSC signed a contract to extend the operating lifetime of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant until 2036.
