If Yerevan continues its rapprochement with the European Union, Russia will not support Armenia within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) or bilateral agreements, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk said, APA's Moscow bureau reports.

He noted that Russia should wait to see who wins Armenia’s parliamentary elections before taking action and making decisions.

“Because if pro-European forces win, this will mean that Armenia is moving toward the European Union, and then it will indeed be necessary to take appropriate measures,” Overchuk said.

According to him, Moscow cannot provide financial support to a country that sees its future in the European Union, which, he claimed, is preparing for war with Russia.

“Why should we support such a country? Are we going to give money to those who may fight us tomorrow?” he emphasized.

The Russian deputy prime minister recalled that Russia still maintains its obligations toward Armenia within the EAEU framework, but these could be reconsidered.

Overchuk stressed that the statement adopted by the leaders at the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting in Astana mentioned the possibility of examining the suspension of Armenia’s membership in the union.

“We do not want Armenia to leave the Eurasian Economic Union,” he added.
