Russia has imposed temporary restrictions on the import of certain berries and fresh vegetables from Armenia, including tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, greens, and strawberries, effective May 30, 2026, APA reportsz
As previously reported by Rosselkhoznadzor, the decision was made in response to increasing violations in the supply of Armenian fruit and vegetable products to Russia and to ensure phytosanitary safety. The agency noted that the current situation, in their assessment, poses a threat to the phytosanitary status of the country.
At the same time, the industry doesn't expect a vegetable shortage due to import restrictions from Armenia. According to Stanislav Bogdanov, Chairman of the Association of Omnichannel Retail Companies, there are no preconditions for shortages of cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and strawberries in major Russian retail chains. Domestic produce accounts for the majority of vegetable supply in chain stores, he emphasized.
Dmitry Leonov, deputy chairman of the board of the Rusprodsoyuz association, also told TASS that restrictions on vegetable supplies from Armenia to Russia will not affect the domestic market, as their share of Russian imports is insignificant.
