Russia will not allow restrictions on shipping in the Baltic Sea, Russian Presidential Aide Nikolai Patrushev made the statement in an interview with Argumenty i Fakty newspaper, APA reports.

He said Russia is ready to deploy its Navy to protect tankers.

According to Patrushev, “attempts at a de facto naval blockade will be prevented, and if pressure increases, the Navy will put an end to the blockade.”

Putin’s aide linked the situation to the detention and inspection of vessels carrying Russian cargo and accused NATO countries of escalating military activity in the region.

He noted that the alliance is creating risks for civilian shipping and strengthening patrol and surveillance operations in the Baltic Sea.

Patrushev emphasized that Russia will firmly defend its national interests at sea.

At the same time, he stated that preparations are underway to escort commercial vessels and reinforce maritime border protection. He added that these measures are not limited to the Baltic Sea, but aim to protect “all strategically important routes.”
