Armenians themselves must decide which union they will join — the European Union or the Eurasian Economic Union, said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.
According to him, Armenian legislation obliges Yerevan to move toward the European Union:
“Armenia has adopted a relevant law, which essentially obliges the Armenian government and all state bodies to orient themselves toward European integration.”
Peskov also stressed that discounts in gas agreements always come at someone’s expense, and in Armenia’s case, this is Russia’s contribution:
“A discount is always at someone’s expense. That is, the discount received by Armenians has always been at someone’s expense; it does not simply fall from the sky. It is at the expense of the Russian Federation. This is our contribution to Armenia’s development, because they are the Armenian people, our brotherly people. This is a brotherly country, it has been and will remain a brotherly country, but it is at our expense.”
The Kremlin spokesman also advised directing questions regarding the possible cancellation of gas agreements with Armenia to Gazprom.
