An iftar dinner was hosted in Moscow on behalf of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and the Foundation’s Representative Office in Russia, APA’s Russia bureau reports.
The iftar table, attended by more than 1,500 people, was held as part of the “Azerbaijan Evening” within the Ramadan Tent set up at Poklonnaya Gora, organised by the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Moscow with the support of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Russia and the Moscow government.
During the event, a photo exhibition was presented highlighting the restoration of mosques in Karabakh, carried out with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories.
Nazim Ismayil-zadeh, Deputy Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s Representative Office in Russia, conveyed the greetings and congratulations of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Foundation, to the participants. He noted that holding Azerbaijan-themed evenings at the Ramadan Tent in Moscow has become a good tradition.
“The Heydar Aliyev Foundation pays great attention to the development of culture and humanitarian issues, as well as to the restoration of mosques in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories, which guests will be able to learn about at the exhibition this evening,” he emphasised.
Tamilla Ahmadova, Head of the Humanitarian Programs Department of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s Representative Office in the Russian Federation, expressed gratitude to Leyla Aliyeva for her attention and support in organizing iftars during the holy month of Ramadan. She underlined the significance of Ramadan in strengthening spiritual values: “The month of Ramadan is a period of mercy, purification, and good deeds — a time when a person especially feels the need to help others.”
Yusif Vazirov, Counselor at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Russia, addressed the ceremony and conveyed the greetings of Ambassador Rahman Mustafayev.
Marat Arslanov, Deputy Mufti of Moscow, stated that celebrating Azerbaijan Evening within the framework of the “Ramadan Tent” has become a long-standing and good tradition that contributes to strengthening intercultural dialogue: “I have been participating in this project since its establishment in 2006, and for many years together with the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and with the participation of the Foundation’s Vice-President Leyla Aliyeva, we have been holding evenings dedicated to Azerbaijani culture and the traditions of the Azerbaijani people. It is gratifying that this year we once again have the opportunity to meet, break the fast together, and enjoy the cultural program prepared for our guests,” he said.
On behalf of the organisers of the “Ramadan Tent,” a letter of appreciation was presented to the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s Representative Office in Russia.
Later, the call to prayer was recited by a religious figure, and Muslims in Moscow broke their fast. Guests were served national dishes of Azerbaijani cuisine.
At the end of the event, a cultural program was organised. Students of the Muslim Children’s School performed for the attendees, followed by a concert by the “Buta Trio,” introducing guests to Azerbaijan’s rich musical heritage.
The Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s Representative Office in Russia has been participating in the “Ramadan Tent” project organized in Moscow for 19 years. The “Ramadan Tent” is an important initiative implemented by the Council of Muftis of Russia to unite representatives of numerous peoples living in Moscow who practice Islam and to strengthen ties among them. This year, the “Ramadan Tent” project is being held under the motto “The Cultural Code of the Future.” Alongside Azerbaijan, representatives from Türkiye, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iran, CIS countries, and various regions of Russia are participating in the project, with around ten countries represented in total.
