The Burevestnik missile tests should in no way harm relations between Moscow and Washington, said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports.
According to the Kremlin official, these relations are already at a minimal level: “There is nothing here that could or will further aggravate relations between Moscow and Washington, especially since these relations are already at a minimal level...”.
Peskov also responded to a question about whether the missile tests could be perceived as a signal to the U.S. and Europe in response to increasing economic pressure on Russia.
He stated that Russia is consistently working to strengthen its security, especially against the backdrop of growing militarism and “internal hysteria” in Europe.
“The development of new weapon systems, including the ‘Burevestnik,’ is also a step taken for this purpose. Ensuring security for our country is a matter of vital importance, especially against the backdrop of the militaristic attitude we mainly observe among Europeans. Europeans are in a state of internal hysteria — Russophobic and aggressive. Amid this, Russia must do everything to ensure its own security,” the official representative of the Kremlin concluded.
