The Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister of Armenia, Arayik Harutyunyan, sees certain problems in Armenia's Declaration of Independence, said Harutyunyan in a conversation with journalists in parliament, APA reports, citing Armenpress.
"I believe that there are certain problems in the Declaration of Independence," Harutyunyan noted.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated in November 2024 that he had come to the conclusion that the Republic of Armenia cannot exist within the content of Armenia's Declaration of Independence: "I have read our Declaration of Independence several times in recent years. And I have come to the conclusion that the content of that Declaration of Independence is that the Republic of Armenia cannot exist. And this is our biggest problem and tragedy," Pashinyan said.
It should be noted that the Declaration of Independence contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
Thus, the Declaration of Independence contains a clause on the necessity of the annexation of the former Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia.
Azerbaijan, however, strongly objects to this and puts forward amendments to the Constitution as a condition for signing a peace agreement with Armenia.
