Nazarbayev: Democracy should be brought through constitutional ways

Baku-APA. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said on Friday that democracy is a choice that should be made by countries and their peoples in a constitutional way, without tragic upheavals and revolutions, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"The ’Arab Spring’ shows that the societies that are not ready to accept western mass-media culture are mostly prone to that. The ’Arab Spring’ demonstrated the erosion of international law and the prevailing law of force," said the president at a meeting held in the Foreign Ministry in the capital Astana..

"We should prevent violations of international law. No goals can be reached by manipulating decisions made by the UN and the Security Council," Nazarbayev noted.

According to him, there is no democracy model that suits everyone. People should determine their future themselves in accordance with their cultures, traditions, and political systems. No one should force changes on anyone from the outside.

"We see that the countries where revolutions have occurred have been set 10-15 years or more back economically. I believe the task of the international community now is to ensure that the period of transformation brings the Arab world more good than bad," Nazarbayev added.
