Police in the city say the explosives - equivalent to 10 kg of TNT - were detonated at 11:30 am on Thursday in a parked car near the entrance to the bustling central Green Market on Ulitsa Zanayeva. The emergency services are evacuating the area around the market, fearing a follow-up blast.
“There is currently a cordon around the market’s perimeter and surrounding,” police source told. “We cannot rule out the possibility of a second explosion”.
“In addition the crowds of people on the streets around the market are making it difficult to move ambulance crews and emergency services.”
