More than 30 defendants accused in plotting government’s ouster in Tajikistan escaped from detention facility

According to APA, one of the prisoners attacked the supervisor, caught his gun and clues and released other inmates. They killed six supervisors and reportedly escaped from detention facility in direction of Rasht valley. Police is searching for fugitives and all roads, airports and railways are under the control. There are citizens of Afghanistan and Russia among the escaped prisoners. Former field commander and former emergency minister of Uzbekistan Mirzo Zieyev’s sons and field commander Nemat Azizov’s brothers are also among the escapees.
More than 40 people were sentenced last week to prison terms ranging from ten years to life for plotting to overthrow the government and participation in illegal armed formations.
Former participants of a civil war early 1990s skirmished with security forces in Tavildarinsk province of Tajikistan last summer. The formations were disarmed in August, 2009. Commanders of the armed formations Nemat Azizov and Mirzo Zieyev were killed during the skirmishes.
