Baku-APA. Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, the president of the Russian North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia, voiced his intention to change his title into "head" instead of "president", APA reports quoting RIA Novosti.

Last week Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov called on presidents of Russia’s North Caucasus republics to ask the lower house of the Russian parliament, the State Duma, for new titles.

Kadyrov said there should only be one president in Russia and regional heads should have different titles. The vast majority of regional leaders are known as governors, but most of Russia’s 21 republics have presidents.

"I personally believe that it is better to say the Head of the Republic," Yevkurov said adding that Kadyrov’s initiative was a good example of how to build a dialogue within the country.

Boris Ebzeyev, the president of another North Caucasus republic of Karachai-Circassia, also voiced his support last week for Kadyrov’s initiative.

A Kremlin source said that the idea to devise a common title for regional heads has been under discussion for a long time, and that the process may be launched now on a voluntary basis.
