The broad-based S&P 500 edged down 0.2 per cent to 1,874, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index added 0.1 per cent to stand at 4,358.
London's benchmark FTSE 100 index grew 0.7 per cent to close at 6,775 points, with the heavyweight mining sector knocked by unease over China, traders said.
Frankfurt's DAX 30 rose 0.5 per cent to 9,542 points, and in Paris the CAC 40 dipped 0.1 per cent to 4,391.
