Baku-APA. After close consultations between the director-general of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the secretary-general of the United Nations (UN), a joint mission in Syria was established on Wednesday, OPCW announced, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
According to an official statement, the OPCW-UN joint mission wants "to achieve the timely elimination of the Syrian chemical weapons program in the safest and most secure manner possible."
The team will "continue the work undertaken by the OPCW and the UN in Syria since the beginning of this month."
Sigrid Kaag, 52, has been appointed as the special coordinator of the joint mission.
