Baku-APA. Bahraini police on Wednesday raided the headquarters of al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, the largest opposition group in the country, on charges of storing "incendiary materials," APA reports quoting Xinhua

The society opened earlier this week an event they dubbed the " Revolution Museum" at the headquarters, showcasing pictures of those killed in clashes with security forces and of the protests organized by opposition groups since the unrest that hit the small Gulf country in 2011.

Riot police closed roads leading to the headquarters as they conducted raids inside the building and confiscated several materials.

The capital governorate police general director said they received an order from public prosecutors to confiscate materials stored in the headquarters and to summon the event's organizers.

He said on Wednesday they found incendiary materials at the group's headquarters in Gufool, adding that possession of such items is punishable under the Bahrain Penal Code.

Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society is the largest opposition group in the country and was among the main leaders of the 2011 protests, which called for social and economic reforms.

Eighteen of its members in parliament resigned from parliament during the wave of unrest.
