Baku-APA. An Iranian deputy foreign minister headed to the Egyptian capital of Cairo Saturday for talks over regional and international issues, APA reports quoting Press TV.
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran's deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs, in his one-day visit, will also meet with the UN-Arab League (AL) special envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi, said the report.
During his talks with Brahimi, the Iranian diplomat is to reiterate the Islamic republic's support for a political solution to the ongoing violence in Syria.
On Wednesday, Amir-Abdollahian criticized the AL for granting Damascus' seat to the Syrian opposition which he calls the " unauthorized people," adding that the move set a precedent against international norms.
The Iranian official said the hasty decision merely served the interests of Western countries in the Mideast.
