Baku-APA. At least three security personnel were killed and seven others injured on Wednesday evening in a hand grenade attack in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi, local media reported, APA rpoerts quoting Xinhua.
According to the reports, the incident took place when some unknown miscreants targeted a mobile vehicle of Rangers (a section of Pakistan's Paramilitary Forces) in the Korangi area of Karachi.
The assailants hurled the grenade into the vehicle that injured six rangers and four civilians including two children.
The security forces, police and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted all the injured to the Jinnah Hospital where three security personnel succumbed to their injuries.
The vehicle was completely destroyed in the attack.
Later on, a spokesman of Pakistani Taliban telephoned local TV Channels and claimed responsibility for the attack.
Police chief of the city Tahir Naveed, talking to local Urdu TV Channels, confirmed the causalities and said two attackers who were riding on a motorcycle conducted the attack and fled the scene after the assault.
Police and Rangers cordoned off the whole area and launched a search operation to arrest the responsible persons.
The incident spread fear among the local residents as shops and markets were closed after the attack.
Naveed feared that it might be the miscreants' reaction to the Ranger's ongoing operation against criminals and terrorists to establish peace in the city.
Last one week, Rangers conducted a number of targeted operations against the troublemakers and arrested many wanted criminals and terrorists, confiscating heavy weapons and explosives from them.
Earlier in the day, the Crime Investigation Department claimed to have arrested two alleged terrorists belonging to banned outfit Lashkar e Jhangvi and recovered arms and explosive materials from their possession.
