Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held telephone conversations with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu, during which the ministers paid special attention to the situation in northeast Syria, APA reports citing Tellereport.
“The parties discussed in detail the process of the Syrian settlement, paying particular attention to the situation in the north-east of the SAR. An exchange of views also took place on the situation in the Balkans, ”the statement reads on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif opposed the Turkish military operation in Syria.
On October 5, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the country could launch a military operation in northern Syria in the coming days.
On October 8, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced the completion of preparations for the operation.
