Iranian MP Ruhollah Motefakkerazad criticized representatives of the UAE, Yemen, and other Muslim countries for their remarks during the 20th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), APA reports.
The Iranian lawmaker accused the UAE representative of attempting to distort facts during his speech.
Ruhollah Motefakkerazad stated that US and Israeli military equipment, including combat aircraft, had been used against Iran from the territories of certain Muslim countries, claiming that those states supported US and Israeli operations against Iran.
“Now they are trying to present themselves as victims. However, this claim does not correspond to reality. A state that allows an aggressor to use its territory cannot claim to be a victim,” the Iranian MP said.
Motefakkerazad noted that Iran had suffered “major losses” in the war but stressed that “the will of the Iranian people has not been broken.”
He added that Tehran has always maintained goodwill toward its neighbors and remained committed to the principles of international law.
“We targeted US military bases located in the region that we considered a threat to our security,” he said.
The Iranian MP also claimed that the Yemeni representative had made “unfounded accusations” against the Islamic Republic of Iran during the event.
“I do not consider it necessary to respond to his incorrect and baseless claims. I would only like to note that his remarks do not reflect reality, and I hope that in the near future the true representatives of the Yemeni people will participate in international platforms,” he said.
Motefakkerazad emphasized that regional security can only be ensured through cooperation among regional countries and solidarity among Islamic states.
His remarks prompted objections from representatives of the UAE and Yemen.
Responding to the Iranian MP, Speaker of Yemen’s House of Representatives Sultan Saeed Al-Barakani stated that Yemeni civilization is no less significant than Iranian civilization.
“We do not agree with the views expressed by our respected colleague. Neither the speech delivered this morning by the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament nor the remarks made now by our Iranian colleague fully reflect the truth. I advise our brothers in Iran to recall history and look at the Iran-Iraq War. At the end of that eight-year conflict, Ruhollah Khomeini himself said that accepting the peace agreement was like ‘drinking a poisoned chalice.’ The situation today is no different. Had the Gulf countries not intervened and encouraged the US President toward peace, Iran would once again have been forced to drink that ‘poisoned chalice’ and accept an agreement under even harsher conditions.
For this reason, gratitude belongs to the Gulf countries. They influenced the US President to choose the path of peace and helped save the region from greater destruction. I want to tell my Iranian brothers that geography and history unite us. However, the political mindset that later emerged both among you and among us has become a source of instability and discord in the region. Stay away from ambitions of hegemony, because that path leads to disaster.
For 47 years, you have dragged Iran from one war to another, from one armed group to another, and from one ‘export of revolution’ project to the next. One of the reasons for the humanitarian tragedy in Yemen today is your policy. Lebanon is also suffering because of your policy. Israeli aggression is a separate issue, but brother, enough is enough. The fragmentation of the Islamic world and its division into factions must stop. The Islamic world suffers from these divisions and disputes. We are all tired of them. What we need is not new conflicts, but greater solidarity, cooperation and unity,” he said.
