Baku-APA. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will pay a visit to Turkish capital of Ankara on Friday to seek support for UN recognition of Palestine as a non-member state, a Palestinian official told Xinhua in Ankara on Wednesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Abbas will have talks with Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss Palestinian bid to be recognized as a sovereign state at the UN General assembly meeting scheduled for on Monday.

Palestinians now have permanent observer status as an entity at the UN.

Turkey put support behind a Palestinian initiative last year for their campaign to win UN recognition of a state that spans the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem, territories Israel captured in 1967.

Turkey’s strong criticism of Israeli treatment of Palestinians has deteriorated ties between Turkey and Israel, once strong allies.
