Baku-APA. Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi said Thursday that a serious and comprehensive national dialogue can serve as a means to move out of the current crisis for Syria, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Addressing an international consultative meeting on Syria, opened in Tehran on Thursday, Salehi said that Iran strongly believes that the only way to resolve the Syrian crisis is serious and comprehensive national dialogue between the opposition and the Syrian government the prerequisite of which is peace and stability in the Arab state.

Salehi said that the aim of the ongoing consultative meeting in Tehran is to help the Syrians and to find a solution to the violence and crisis in Syria.

Iran has always emphasized political ways to restore peace and to implement political reforms in Syria, said the Iranian foreign minister.

Iran opposes the killing of people and unarmed citizens by any side in Syria, he added.

In the past years, Iran has always been a part of solution to the regional crises and in the issues concerning Afghanistan, Iraq and Lebanon has played constructive roles, said Salehi.

To help the democratic process of meeting the demands of the Syrians, Iran has announced its readiness to host the talks between the Syrian opposition and the Syrian government, emphasized Salehi.

The international sanctions have not helped the interests of the Syrian people but have made them suffer further, said Salehi, adding that the Islamic republic has tried to reduce the pressures on the Syrian people by sending humanitarian aids to them.

He stressed that all the regional and world countries which play roles in Syrian crisis should realize this fact that the Syrian crisis will only be solved through the national and political talks.

Arming the dissident groups and extremists will further worsen the situation and will affect other countries, he went on.

The international consultative meeting on Syria opened in Tehran on Thursday with the slogan of "Stop Violence, National Dialogue."

The consultative meeting have been attended by representatives of more than 20 countries, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian was quoted as saying by the state IRIB TV on Thursday.

Syria has been wrecked by bombings and violence since March 2011.
