Baku-APA.Security reiterated Friday that 14 Syrians were deported after committing crimes in Lebanon, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The General Security deported 14 Syrians on Wednesday, which draws criticism from human rights activists. A Human Rights Watch representative in Beirut said some of the deportees had expressed fears of persecution on their return.

In a statement, Lebanese General Security said the decision " stems from laws and regulations" and the matter is "under the authority of the Lebanese judiciary."

The deported Syrians "received judicial verdicts for crimes they committed on Lebanese territory, which the Syrian state has nothing to do with."

The General Security noted that it "refrained from deporting a Syrian held in Lebanon on charges of slaughtering 10 Syrians in his country, because during interrogation he said he was a member of the opposition, prompting the directorate to freeze his deportation given that the element of politics entered his judicial case, despite the crimes he had committed."

The directorate called on people not to treat laws and regulations with a political approach, preventing the matter from turning into a subject of controversy.
