Press: â€œBashad al-Asad intends to declare new Alawite state

The newspaper wrote Syrian opposition figures have not ruled out the possibility that with the Syrian security forces targeting of many cities in the Syrian coastal area or near it, bombarding them and committing massacres in them, and displacing their people, Syrian President Bashar al-Asad may be seeking to establish an Alawite state in the Syrian coast that would become a refuge for him if things go out of control.

The massacres of Hawla, Al-Hifah, Al-Qabir, and Al-Turaymisah and the operations accompanied them can be considered â€œethnic cleansing,â€ in addition to the bloody siege of Homs, the third city in Syria, which is considered a real obstacle to the Alawite state, have led the observers and strategists to repeatedly emphasize that Al-Asad has the intention to create an Alawite area that has a strategic coastal and mountainous location to entrench himself in and to be his launching pad for defending himself and his supporters against possible vengeance operations in case he becomes unable to keep his security regime integrated.

In light of the difficulty of reaching a solution on the Yemeni way that ends the Syrian crisis which has been continuing for more than 16 months, a prominent Syrian opposition figure told Al-Sharq al-Awsat that Al-Asad and those who are around him have worked even before the eruption of the revolution to set up an Alawite canton. He spoke about â€œtransferring part of the fund reserves from the Central Bank to Tartus after the Syrian revolution broke out and the stockpiling of logistical means and the preparation of security stations,â€ and at the same time he said that â€œthere is no possibility for setting up this canton, which is in the imagination of Al-Asad, because the Alawites themselves refuse to be slashed from Syria and they will restore their positive role as soon as the regime collapses.â€
