Baku-APA. The UN Security Council Friday unanimously adopted a rollover resolution extending the mandate of the UN Supervision Mission in Syria (UNSMIS) for another 30 days, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The resolution, proposed by Germany, France, Britain and Portugal, gave the mission a final 30-day extension unless there will be cessation of use of heavy weapons and reduction of violence of all parties in Syria.

The 15-member Council approved in April establishing UNSMIS of 300 unarmed military observers to oversee a ceasefire in Syria and monitor the implementation of UN-Arab League Joint Special Envoy Kofi Annan’s six-point peace plan. The mandate of the mission expires on Friday.

Due to escalating violence in Syria, most of the mission’s activities had been suspended since June 16.
