Baku-APA. At least 34 people have been killed and 21 others injured after a crowded bus plunged into a river bank in central Vietnam. It’s one of the country’s deadliest road accidents, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
Local officials say the bus smashed through the rails of a bridge Thursday night and plunged into the river bank about 18 metres below. The two drivers of the bus were among the 32 people who died at the scene. Two others died at the hospital.
Of the 21 injured, 16 are in serious condition. The bus was travelling on a regular 350-kilometer route from the central highland province of Dak Lak to the southern commercial hub of Ho Chi Minh City.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash. Vietnam has one of the world’s highest traffic fatality rates, with more than 11,000 people killed each year.
