Citizens having foreign currency without invoice to be arrested in Iran

Konul Jafarli – APA. “If foreign currency without an invoice is found on any citizen of the country, that currency will be confiscated, the person will be put under arrest,†Ebrahim Darvishi, the supervising deputy of the Central Bank of Iran said, APA reports. He said the decision is applied to all citizens of the country from January 15.
“The citizens of Iran must purchase dollar or euro at the official foreign exchange offices and have an invoice from those offices. The foreign currency without an invoice will be considered contraband and anyone in possession of it will be arrested and fined,†he said.
Ebrahim Darvishi said the persons, who bring foreign currency to the country, must have official document. Otherwise, these persons will be punished. The Central Bank of Iran warned the foreign exchange offices.
“The foreign exchange offices committing illegal actions will be closed, their licenses will be cancelled,†he said.
Two weeks ago Iran’s national currency fell against the foreign currency. Ebrahim Darvishi blamed street dealers and underlined that Iranian security agencies will prevent it.
