The agreement to send uranium to Turkey for enrichment was reached in Tehran on May 16 in the negotiations of foreign ministers of Iran and mediating countries – Turkey and Brazil. The details of the agreement are not known yet. The final details will be agreed and officially declared at the meeting of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in Tehran on May 17. Recep Tayyip Erdogan unexpectedly left for Tehran on May 16. President of Brazil is also there.
Earlier, the six countries negotiating on the Iranian nuclear issue offered Iran to export low-enriched uranium to Russia or France. In exchange, Iran was offered 20% enriched uranium. At first Tehran rejected the offer. But at the Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said they could discuss the offer.
