Baku – APA. Iran on Thursday lambasted Canada’s attitude towards the issue of human rights, and voiced Tehran’s strong protests at Ottawa’s stance against Iran’s membership in the UN Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW), APA reports quoting “Fars” News Agency.
The United Nations elected Iran to the commission last week, handing a four-year seat on the influential human rights body to Tehran.

In the four-year period beginning in 2011, Iran will help set UN policy on gender equality and the advancement of women.

Commenting on remarks of Canadian Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon on the issue, Mottaki said, "Canadian officials’ approaches on human rights have been always politically-motivated and have satisfied Zionists’ wishes."

The minister reminded Iran’s participation in international human rights communities, and underlined that the country is active against violation of rights of the indigenous, women and different tribes in different countries including Canada.

The Canadian foreign minister claimed Sunday that he has "serious concerns" about Iran’s participation in the panel.
