Protestors clash with police in Macao, over 30 injured

Baku-APA. Calling for more jobs and lower house prices, some 1,500 workers and young people Saturday took to the street in a demonstration, which saw some protestors clash with local police, leaving at least over 30 people injured, APA reports quoting news.xinhuanet.com website.

The demonstrations were organized by several local trade unions, civil groups and young people who were grouped together through the Internet. The workers and the young people chose different routes to march.

The conflicts occurred when the police tried to stop the workers from deviating from the routes originally set by the police this afternoon. Some 800 protestors did not followed the police-designated routes, according to the police.

The protestors attacked the policemen present with bamboo sticks, bottles and rocks, while the police used water cannon and pepper stray to keep the protestors at bay.

At 3:00 p.m. local time, the police announced that the demonstration was canceled and ordered the protestors to disperse, but a dozen of the leading protestors chose to stay at the conflict spot to confront the police that surrounded them.

Some 350 policemen were deployed along the demonstration routes, and the conflicts has led to the injury of 31 policemen and two journalist.

As this article was filed, the police still have not decided when to disperse the remaining protestors.
