Baku-APA. Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast on Tuesday questioned the intentions behind the U.S. nuclear summit, the local satellite Press TV reported, News.xinhuanet.com web-page.
Speaking to reporters, Mehman-Parast cast doubt on the Washington’s intention behind its nuclear summit, the report said.
The summit is a "show" aimed to "invoke an unreal threat" while seeking to draw the global community’s attention away from the main source of concern, Mehman-Parast was quoted as saying.
The United Satates cannot talk about nuclear disarmament while it threatens to use its nuclear weapons against other nations, Mehman-Parast said, according to Press TV.
"Countries that possess nuclear weapons, have used them against hundreds of thousands of innocent people and ... even threaten nations with such weapons should not hold such conferences," Mehman-Parast said, adding that there was serious doubt about the U.S. "real intention" behind the summit.
U.S. President Barack Obama is hosting leaders from 47 countries, the United Nations, the European Union and the International Atomic Energy Agency for a two-day nuclear security summit that is focusing on how to better safeguard weapon materials, both old and new, to keep them out of the hands of terrorists.
