Iran launches legal case against former presidential candidate

Tehran – APA. Iran launched a legal case against former presidential candidate and former parliament speaker Mehdi Karoubi over his allegations that his supporters were tortured and raped in jail, APA reports quoting IRNA. Tehran prosecutor Abbas Jafari-Dolatabadi said that Karoubi was a cleric and his remarks should be studied at the Shari’ah court. He said some people have also been summoned in connection with the case.
The allegations about torture and sexual abuse against the opposition supporters in jail were confirmed by the different sources. Karoubi said that he had evidences about torturing and raping of opposition supporters in jail, who were arrested after the presidential elections. He demanded the officials to investigate these facts. He said some of the oppositionists were killed in jail as a result of tortures. Karoubi threatened to publish more exact reports about the violence against young men and women in detentions if it is not ended.
