Baku-APA. Resolution on the situation of human rights in Crimea, sponsored by Ukraine, will be discussed in the UN General Assembly, APA reports quoting RIA Novosti.
The document calls for international monitoring of the situation of human rights was adopted by the UNGA Third Committee on Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs on Tuesday.
Not all states participated in the voting. For the adoption of the document voted 73 countries, in particular USA, UK, Canada and the EU, 23 countries voted against and 76 abstained. Against the resolution were Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Venezuela, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Serbia, Syria and other countries.
Azerbaijan did not participate in the voting.
The document calls on the Russian Federation to "ensure proper and unrestricted access" to the Crimea the international missions to monitor the situation of human rights and non-governmental human rights organizations, "Recognizing that the international presence in the Crimea is essential to prevent further deterioration of the situation."
In general, the document condemned "human rights abuses, discriminatory measures and practices against the inhabitants of the Crimea", including "the Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians and persons belonging to other ethnic and religious groups."
