Baku-APA. The U.S. government on Wednesday announced the launch of its Cybersecurity Framework, a voluntary guide for American organizations in the critical infrastructure community to improve their cybersecurity, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The framework came one year after President Barack Obama signed an executive order calling for its creation. The White House said it "gathers existing global standards and practices to help organizations understand, communicate, and manage their cyber risks" and also "offers guidance regarding privacy and civil liberties considerations."

Obama said in a statement that the framework "reflects the good work of hundreds of companies, multiple federal agencies, and contributors from around the world."

"While I believe today's framework marks a turning point, it's clear that much more work needs to be done to enhance our cybersecurity," Obama said.

"America's economic prosperity, national security, and our individual liberties depend on our commitment to securing cyberspace and maintaining an open, interoperable, secure, and reliable Internet. Our critical infrastructure continues to be at risk from threats in cyberspace, and our economy is harmed by the theft of our intellectual property," he said.

Meanwhile, Obama urged the Congress to move forward on cybersecurity legislation that would give the government more power to manage the cybersecurity issues, which was opposed by the private sector.
