The US Treasury has designated Michael Joseph Martelly, the former President of Haiti, pursuant to Executive Order 14059“Imposing Sanctions on Foreign Persons Involved in the Global Illicit Drug Trade”, APA reports.
Martelly is alleged to have:
- abused his position to facilitate drugs trafficking;
- “engaged in the laundering of illicit drug proceeds”; and
- worked with drug traffickers; and
- “sponsored multiple Haiti-based gangs”.
