US President Donald Trump called a legislative resolution demanding that force not be used against Venezuela without Congressional approval unconstitutional. He published a corresponding article on Truth Social, APA reports.
Trump said the Republican Party "should be ashamed of the senators who, along with Democrats," voted to continue work on a joint resolution demanding that the administration not use military force against Venezuela without legislative approval.
"This vote significantly undermines the self-defense and national security of the United States and impedes the President's authority as Commander-in-Chief," Trump said. He called the resolution "unconstitutional and violates Article II of the Constitution," which outlines the powers of the American head of state. "Nevertheless, a more important vote on this issue will take place in the Senate next week," Trump added, without specifying what he meant.
