U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed skepticism about whether NATO allies would come to the United States’ defense if Washington ever needed support, despite saying he generally favors the alliance, APA reports.
Speaking about the transatlantic military bloc, Trump said the U.S. spends significant resources on NATO but questioned whether that commitment would be reciprocated in a crisis.
“I like NATO, you know. I just wonder whether or not, if we needed NATO, would they be there for us? I’m not sure they would,” Trump said. “We spend a lot of money on NATO, and I’m not sure they would.”
