Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Sunday had a phone conversation with United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken at Washington's initiative to talk about Evan Gershkovich, a journalist for The Wall Street Journal who was arrested on espionage charges, APA reports citing Teletrader.
Lavrov emphasized that Gershkovich's fate would be determined by the court.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that during the phone call, Blinken was reminded of the need to respect "Russia's decisions taken in accordance with the law and international obligations" and that officials in Washington and the Western media should not give the case a "political coloring."
The conversation also touched upon some topical issues of a bilateral nature.
