Acting New York Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan rejected the request of several media organizations to broadcast former United States President Donald Trump's arraignment in a New York state court on Tuesday, APA reports citing ABC News.

Instead, five pool photographers will be permitted to take pictures for a few minutes before the proceedings start, according to ABC News.

The judge also prohibited electronic devices and video cameras in both the main and overflow courtrooms. Although recognizing the historic significance of the indictment against a former president, the judge reportedly stated that he needs to consider "other interests."

Trump was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury on Thursday, becoming the first former US president to have criminal charges brought against him. His lawyers have previously made the request not to allow cameras inside the courtroom.
