Barack Obama appoints special representatives to the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan

Washington –APA. US President Barack Obama appointed former Senator George Mitchell to the post of special representatives to the Middle East. Mitchel, who played exclusive role in the settlement of the conflict in Northern Ireland, will be one of the decisive figures in the US Middle East policy. Former US ambassador to UN Richard Holbrooke was appointed as a special representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Obama said Afghanistan and Pakistan would turn into the center of international anti-terror war. Holbrooke said he would visit the region in near future and would prepare report for the President and Secretary of State about the situation in the Asian countries. Holbrooke is one of the promoters of Dayton peace agreement ending bloodshed in Bosnia-Herzegovina. He was one of the influential diplomats of 1990s.
