Barack Obama to appoint Republican as transportation secretary

Washington – APA. U.S. president-elect Barack Obama is going to appoint Republican of Illinois Ray LaHood as transportation secretary. APA reports that Ray LaHood will be the second republican in Obama administration, after Robert Gates, the defense secretary who has agreed to stay on. LaHood has been represented in the legislative body for 13 years. Born to the family of a Lebanese migrant, Ray LaHood taught in catholic schools and was member of Illinois General Assembly. His most public role to date was presiding over the House during the nationally televised debate over the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.
