Ahmadinejad set to meet Occupy Wall Street members in New York

Baku-APA. ranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is set to meet with members of the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement during his current New York City visit for the UN General Assembly gathering, APA reports quoting Press TV.

The president also plans to meet American university students, artists, intellectuals and elites.

Ahmadinejad is scheduled to address the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday and elaborate on the Islamic Republicâ€™s stances on key international issues.

Analysts see Iran as just one example of the connection between OWS movement and the Middle East, which is based on a common enemy, the governments of the United States and Israel.

Occupy protesters stormed an Israeli consulate in Boston on November 2011, waving Palestinian flags and shouting â€œLong Live the Intifadah!â€ and â€œnot another nickel, not another dime! No more money for Israel’s crimesâ€.

Participants made clear that they are not anti-Semites, but anti-Zionists, critical of the Israeli government’s current policies.

The OWS movement emerged after a group of demonstrators gathered in New York’s financial district on September 17, 2011 to protest, among other things, the excessive influence of big corporations on the US policies as well as the unjust distribution of wealth and the high-level corruption in the country.

The movement was followed by rallies, in which the protesters started using the slogan, "We are the 99 percent" to distinguish themselves from the one percent of Americans, who are in possession of the greatest portion of the nation’s wealth.
