A Qatari citizen was killed and another person was injured on board a vessel as a result of shrapnel from fighting in the region, the emirate's Ministry of the Interior informed, APA reports.
As the agency clarified, during a routine inspection, the Main Directorate of Coast Guard and Border Security recorded that one of the vessels with two people on board failed to return at the scheduled time. Marine patrols launched a search operation on Saturday evening.
"In the early morning hours of Sunday, <...> a search and rescue team <...> located the vessel. During the operation, the death of a Qatari citizen from shrapnel wounds sustained as a result of military action in the area was confirmed," the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry added that the second person on board, a foreign national of Arab descent permanently residing in Qatar, was injured. He was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
