Mexican president orders rescuing landslide victims with full swing in Oaxaca

Baku-APA. Mexican President Felipe Calderon ordered Tuesday his Cabinet to immediately aid the victims of the landslide occurred in Santa Maria Tlahuitoltepec, Oaxaca state, APA reports quoting news.xinhuanet.com website.

Calderon expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and relatives and expressed his solidarity with Oaxaca’s governor Ulises Ruiz.

The landslide occurred on Tuesday early morning and there have reported seven deaths till now, however, the landslide buried some 300 houses and the authorities said at least 500 people are buried under the mud.

The number of victims could increase after the rescue works began.

Calderon plans to visit the area, however, to the moment it is impossible due to the weather conditions. It continues raining in the area and it’s impossible to land.

Meanwhile, Ruiz said that the access to the area to assist the victims and carry out the rescue works would be difficult because it continues raining in the area.

Ruiz said that even 1,000 people could be buried under the mud, and added that to the moment there are seven confirmed deaths and 100 missing.
