Baku-APA. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao left New York for home on Thursday after winding up a tightly scheduled three-day visit here, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

Wen arrived here Tuesday evening for the U.N. Summit on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the general debate of the 65th session of the U.N. General Assembly, a summit of the U.N. Security Council member states and a high-level discussion panel on AIDS and MDGs.

Wen addressed the MDG summit, saying China will step up efforts to reduce poverty and fulfill its commitments to realizing the goals.

Wen also attended a U.N. panel to discuss ways to enhance anti-AIDS efforts as part of a global campaign to meet the MDGs, and illustrated the developing countries’ determination to cope with HIV/AIDS and achieve the MDGs.

He also attended the launching ceremony of a multi-billion-U.S. dollar U.N. plan to save the lives of women and children, saying China will try its best to participate in international efforts aimed at ensuring better health for women and children.

During the stay, Wen met with U.S. President Barack Obama, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and foreign leaders. He also met celebrities from the U.S. economic and financial community, Sino-U.S. friendship groups, overseas Chinese and foreign media.

It was Wen’s second participation at the U.N. meetings in New York since 2008. Chinese President Hu Jintao also attended U.N. conferences here last year.

Besides Wen, about 140 heads of state and government attended the MDGs summit at the U.N. headquarters.
