Colombia sends 15 more peacekeepers to Haiti

Baku-APA. Colombia said Tuesday it has sent 15 more police officers to join the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (Minustah), APA reports quoting news.xinhuanet.com website.

The contingent, including two female officers for the first time, will aid on intelligence issues, criminal investigation, anti drug missions, anti kidnapping, and bordering vigilance, Colombian National Police said in a statement.

The officers will join 23 other Colombian peacekeepers who have been there before the Jan. 12 earthquake that devastated the poor Caribbean island state.

"During the last seven months, the Colombian policemen of the Minustah, have delivered 112,196 food packs, more than 25,000 liters of water and 21,013 tons of food to the victims affected by the earthquake," the statement added.

Colombian peacekeepers also support UN special missions in Guatemala and Sierra Leona.
