Baku-APA. An Egyptian Criminal Court on Thursday sentenced former housing minister Ahmed al-Maghrabi to five years in prison on corruption charges, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Al-Maghrabi was convicted over the illegal acquisition of public property and wasting public funds, and Judge Assem Abdul Hamid Nasr ordered him to pay a fine worth 72 million Egyptian pounds (about 12 million U.S. dollars).

Al-Maghrabi was another senior member of the former government found guilty over corruption after former president Hosni Mubarak was forced to step down by the massive anti-regime protests. Corruption was among the top complaints of protesters who joined the demonstration.

Earlier this month, former interior minister Habib Ibrahim el- Adli was sentenced to 12 years in jail and former tourism minister Zuheir Garranah five years in prison.
