Health of Egyptian ex-president Mubarak improves - media

Baku-APA. The health of Egyptian ex-president Hosni Mubarak has improved, though the former leader is depressed, the Al-Ahram newspaper said on Friday citing medical sources, APA reports quoting RIA Novosti.

The 82-year-old remains in hospital in Sharm el-Sheikh, though the authorities have ordered his detention on Wednesday. Doctors banned Mubarak’s transportation to Cairo, where he is to appear in court along with his two sons.

According to the newspaper, the former leader was depressed by the news that his two sons were taken to a prison in Cairo on Wednesday, and refuses to communicate with anyone except his wife Suzanne.

Mubarak, 82, had been living in his villa in the Sharm el-Sheikh resort since stepping down and handing power to the military on February 11 following a popular uprising. He and his family have been banned from leaving the country.

The ex-president was rushed to hospital with heart problems on Tuesday. He was questioned in his hospital ward and will stay there for entire 15-day detention period.

Mubarak and his family members are suspected of corruption, illicitly acquired wealth, squandering of public funds and abuse of authority. Their connection to the heavy-handed crackdown on protesters earlier this year is also being probed. The ex-president publicly dismissed all charges.
